A musical globalista with a rebel rock'n'roll heart, there's nobody quite like Manu Chao

Manu Chao is a legendary French-Spanish performer and songwriter. The son of exiles from Franco's Spain, Chao grew up in Paris, France . He came to fame as lead singer of the anarchic genre-bending band Mano Negra (the Black Hand). After several albums in France the band split in 1995 and Manu travelled the world before recording his first solo album.

'Clandestino' was a landmark in global Latin fusion and went on to be one of the best-selling albums in French music history, clocking up sales of over three million copies around the world. The follow-up, 'Proxima Estaci'n: Esperanza' (Next Station: Hope) remained at the number one spot in Europe's Top 100 Albums for several weeks and itself also sold three million copies.

In addition to his own work, Chao also produced the Malian duo Amadou & Mariam's 'Dimanche a Bamako', one of the most celebrated albums in African music history. In collaboration with the illustrator Wozniak, Chao also released, 'Sib'rie m''tait cont'ee', a very limited edition album of acoustic music sung in French with a book of Wozniak's drawings in September 2004.

In 2007, Manu released his third studio album 'La Radiolina' which finds all Chao's maverick trademarks present in abundance - the Latin melodies and world rhythms, the surreal samples and sense of fun, the street-punk sloganising and the unerring pop sensibility.

In October 2009, Manu Chao released his 2-CD live album and DVD entitled 'Baionarena' includes all of Manu's great works from his previous albums as well as live clips from his live date in Bayonne in July 2008, Clips from Radiolina, photos and bonus tracks.

Manu Chao's huge global success lies in his wide appeal. His music crosses boundaries of race and class with absolute ease.

He is truly unique, 'a music revolutionary and man of the people - if only everyone could be like Manu Chao'.

Stand-out tracks include 'Bongo Bong', 'Me Gustas Tu', 'Politik Kills', 'Clandestino', 'Rainin' In Paradize'.
