Steve Wickham is the fiddle player with the hugely influential band, the Waterboys. His violin playing has been heard on millions of records worldwide. Apart from the dozen or so albums with the Waterboys, Steve has recorded with U2, Sinead O Connor, Elvis Costello, Declan O Rourke, Sharon Shannon and many other major recording artists.
Steve’s solo album Geronimo was released to critical acclaim in 2004. Hailed as “fiddling legend’ by the NME, Wickham has received Hot Press awards for his work as a musician.
This autumn Steve returns to the stage for several shows with fellow Waterboy and pianist Richard Naiff. Richard garnered the praise of David Bowie on Bowie’s website, after a show by the Waterboys in New York. Richard has played with the Waterboys since Mike Scott reformed the band in 1999.
Together Richard and Steve will explore Wickham’s solo repertoire and push out the boundaries. For those of you familiar with Steve’s work you know that you can expect fire and passion, for those unfamiliar, expect the unexpected. His music is a heady mixture of folk, blues and classical.
